Questions
Good to know
How far in advance should we book an Indian wedding DJ in Columbus?
Most couples book us 9 to 15 months ahead. Prime Saturdays between May and October fill first. If your date is closer, ask anyway; we can sometimes cover weekday or shorter events.
Do you cover all the events in a wedding weekend?
Yes. We regularly cover the mehndi or haldi, sangeet, baraat, ceremony audio and reception for the same family, and we quote the weekend as one package so the planning stays in one place.
Do you provide a dhol player for the baraat?
Yes. Both founders play dhol, and we bring live dhol plus a portable sound system for the procession. Many families keep the dhol for the reception entrance too.
Can your emcee speak Hindi and Punjabi?
Yes. Kaka G emcees in English, Hindi and Punjabi and adjusts the mix to your guests, which helps mixed families and older relatives follow the program.
How far do you travel for weddings?
We are based in Hilliard and travel anywhere within about two hours of Columbus, including Dayton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Akron, Canton and Toledo. Travel is included in your quote upfront.
Can you work with our planner and venue coordinator?
Always. We share the run of show with your planner, confirm load-in with the venue and keep timing tight so catering and photography stay on schedule.
The full guide to Indian Wedding DJRead more
DJ Wale is an Indian wedding DJ team based in Hilliard, serving Columbus and everywhere within about two hours. Since 2012 we have handled the full South Asian wedding weekend: baraat with live dhol, sangeet, mehndi, ceremony audio and the reception, with a bilingual emcee, lighting and effects from one team.
An Indian wedding is not one event. It is three or four days of different moods, from the intimacy of a mehndi to the noise of a baraat to a reception where three generations want to dance to three different kinds of music. Our job is to carry the energy across all of it without making you manage five vendors.
DJ Ravi has been playing South Asian weddings since 2012, and co-founder Kaka G has been on the mic and the dhol beside him since 2015. That means the person reading your dance floor, the person running your program and the people playing live dhol already work as one team. You plan with us once, and the whole weekend runs from the same run of show.
We play Bollywood, Punjabi and bhangra, Telugu and South Indian hits, garba, Top 40, hip-hop and the classics your parents will request, and we move between them by reading the room rather than following a fixed playlist.
How it runs, step by step
- Planning meeting: We build your run of show: events, timings, must-play and do-not-play lists, entrance songs, speeches and cultural moments.
- Easy, warm sets: Lighter Bollywood and Punjabi favorites, folk songs and sing-alongs while the henna and haldi happen.
- Performances and party: We cue every family performance, then open the floor with garba, bhangra and Bollywood.
- Baraat: Live dhol and a portable sound system lead the groom's procession to the venue doors.
- Clear audio: Microphones for the officiant and soft instrumental music between rituals, kept respectful and quiet.
- Entrances to last song: Grand entrance with cold sparks or CO2, speeches, first dance in low fog, cake, then an open floor until the last song.
The music
Expect a reception set that moves from Bollywood classics and current Punjabi hits into bhangra, garba and raas, then Top 40 and hip-hop for your friends, and back again whenever the aunties and uncles take over the floor. We take requests, and we also respect a do-not-play list; tell us which songs mean something to your family and we will build moments around them.
Planning tips
- Book your DJ as soon as you have a venue and date. Spring, summer and fall Saturdays in central Ohio go first, often a year ahead.
- Send us your venue's load-in rules and end time early; many Columbus-area ballrooms have strict cut-offs for music and effects.
- Ask your venue about cold sparks and fog. Most allow cold spark machines because they are not pyrotechnics, but some need notice.
- Give us one point of contact for the day, usually a planner or a sibling, so the couple can stay off their phones.
